"aqua mater"
the woman in medieval music

Using ancient and folk orchestration Musica Officinalis takes a look at the figure of the woman in the Middle Ages. At the same time inspired and a source of inspiration we will hear sentiments through her own songs (Cantigas de Amigo) and melodies dedicated to her as the loved woman (provencal chants) or as the Virgin mother (Cantigas de Santa Maria, Llibre Vermell). The connecting thread is water, the feminine element for excellence, which shows itself now as a fountain spouting love (Yarim Gitti), now as the sea that brings salvation (En quantas guisas) now as an ocean, sweetly confiding its own message of love (Ondas do mar). To make this musical picture complete we cannot leave out the music of the people who line the Mediterranean sea.
